What does the job involve?
Ensuring the best manufacturing techniques are carried out within the Machine Shop by practical application of the most appropriate methods of programming, setting, and operation of the machine tools. The role aims to stimulate an atmosphere of continuous improvement.
Hours of work: 39 hours per week.
Standard Dayshift: Monday to Thursday 6.45am to 3.30pm with a 30-minute unpaid break for lunch, and Friday 7.00am to 1.00pm. Flexibility on hours available.
CNC Cylindrical Grinder – Responsibilities include:
- Grinding, internal and external, setting, and operating all machines within the cell (Studer S40, 1.6m between centres, and Danobat HG72, 3m between centres).
- Developing grinding methodologies for highly complex, very tight tolerance machined parts within the defence industries.
- Collaborating with the Production Manager to ensure effective use of methods, tooling, and fixtures to achieve cost-effective, quality products according to production requirements.
- Monitoring the manufacturing process to ensure total process control.
- Driving continuous improvement, including training on new technologies such as CMM equipment.
- Maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and housekeeping within the manufacturing area.
- Carrying out preventative maintenance schedules.
- Accurately recording, maintaining, and updating manufacturing process information.
- Assisting in the training and development of new and existing employees.
- Collaborating effectively with management and project personnel to meet business objectives.
- Performing additional duties as reasonably required by the company.
Key skills and experience required:
- Legal right to live and work in the UK (Essential).
- At least 3 years’ experience in a high-precision manufacturing environment.
- Experience with a wide range of grinding and manufacturing processes.
- Experience working with various materials in different applications.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and work instructions.
- Confidence and capability in developing grinding methodologies for complex, tight-tolerance parts in the defence industry.
- High-level understanding of geometric dimensions & tolerances.
- Experience with Danobat machines (Desirable).
Qualifications required:
- Completed a recognised apprenticeship in mechanical engineering.
- Security Clearance (Desirable).
