Job Title: Production Colleague

Reporting To: Supervised by & reports to the Team Leader Responsible for the relevant department

Scope and Purpose of the Role: The role is to support Senior Aerospace BWT’s commitment to its internal and external customers to deliver high quality products on time and in full.

Duties and Responsibilities: (Dependant on department)

Either

  1. Wet lay up formers and plasters using base materials and solvent-based adhesive, assembly work will include inserting beaded inserts, fixing brackets and metal details onto PD, stringing, cuffing, and working with jigs, patterns and detailed drawings. Remove PD work from plasters and formers.
  2. The preparation of formers by covering them with a fixed Fluon and if necessary a sliding Fluon, the cutting of base cloths and rolling them onto the former and gluing the seam. The preparation cleaning and routine maintenance of the winding machines. The loading of the formers onto the winding machine operating the winding machine through the winding process and manually removing the formers at the end of the process and placing them in a drying cabinet. Date stamping the tubes and then manually removing them from the formers.
  3. The sewing of inners on a round-arm sewing machine, cuffing lengths of flexible hose and silencer inners using formers and solvent based adhesives. Joining various connectors to silencer inners and flexible, rigid and semi rigid ducting using jigs, patters and detailed drawings. Use hand held cutting equipment and heat guns
  4. Mixing and pouring plaster into moulds, removing plaster from moulds when dry, dressing and waxing plasters before delivery to PD flow lines and cleaning moulds and reassembling
  5. Cuffing lengths of flexible hose using cuffing formers and solvent-based adhesives. Joining various connectors to flexible, rigid and semi rigid ducting using jigs, patterns and detailed drawings.
  6. Cutting fibreglass panels using templates and patterns. Laying up fibreglass panels using water based adhesives, lagging various products, finishing insulation panels using metallised tapes and various adhesives. Finishing lagged items using metallised tapes and various adhesives, the use hand held cutting equipment and operating spray guns.
  7. The Preparation of mixed materials required by the manufacturing plans and general production. Supplying primed helix to the manufacturing plans.
  • Working to Standard Operating Procedures and Company policies and procedures.
  • Working to COSHH requirements in force within the department.
  • Deliver and book work into the quality/other department when completed.
  • Responsible for good housekeeping and observing all H&S requirements of the department.

In addition to these duties, employees are required to carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate will demonstrate good dexterity skills, be able to work accurately and neatly and to strict productivity deadlines and enjoy working as part of a team. You will be flexible in approach and be prepared to work additional hours as required

Previous experience of working in a manufacturing environment is highly desirable. Previous experience of working to technical drawings is a distinct advantage. Successful applications will be able to give examples of where they have worked to our Values. Details of our Values are attached.

Working Conditions:

You will spend your working day in a busy production environment. As a Production Colleague based in the Winding dept you will produce aircraft ducting by hand & machine, using specialist cloth and chemicals. The ducting then goes to other departments within the production facility for finishing.

Production Colleagues will be work allocated by the Line Controller or Team Leader responsible for their dept. (Whilst in the training period the Trainer will be responsible for the allocation of work).

It will be necessary to visit other departments as required to collect jigs, tools, templates, drawings and items from stores. There may be a requirement to work in other areas if plant and equipment demands it.

The nature of the specialist materials and chemicals used in the manufacturing process means you will be required to use PPE (Personal Protective Equipment); safety glasses, nitryl gloves, sleeve protectors, aprons and safety footwear. PPE is mandatory and must be used at all times.

Hours of Work:

Afternoon shift 14.30pm to 10.45 pm Monday to Thursday & 12.45 pm-18.00 pm Friday
