Are you an experienced SHEQ Officer looking for a structured, hands-on role within a regulated process industry environment? This is a 1-year fixed term contract opportunity based on site in Rye, supporting operational teams across health, safety, environmental and quality (SHEQ) activities. You'll play a key role in maintaining safe operations, robust management systems, and strong regulatory compliance.
As SHEQ Officer, you'll oversee and support site activities to ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental and quality standards. Working closely with site leadership and central SHEQ functions, you'll help maintain effective management systems while driving continuous improvement across the site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process Safety
- Oversee hazard identification and risk assessment activities (e.g. HazID, HazOp, LOPA, SIL)
- Ensure risk reduction measures are implemented
- Support management of change processes and assess new activities for Health and Safety suitability
- Liaise with Health & Safety and Environmental regulators and authorities such as HSE to maintain legal compliance
- Maintain compliance with safety documentation and emergency response plans
- Support emergency exercises, incident command structures, and external communications
- Report on process safety KPIs, incidents, and near misses
- Health & Personal Safety
- Deliver site inductions and manage SHEQ competency programmes
- Ensure effective contractor SHEQ controls
- Oversee risk assessments and safe systems of work
- Conduct accident investigations and ensure corrective actions are completed
- Monitor and report personal safety performance
- Health Monitoring
- Oversee COSHH and chemical exposure monitoring programmes
- Manage occupational health surveillance activities
- Report on employee health performance and emerging issues
- Environmental
- Maintain compliance with environmental permits and legislation
- Manage environmental monitoring and energy management programmes
- Investigate environmental incidents and complaints
- Report environmental performance and significant events
- Quality
- Oversee site quality control processes
- Support Duty of Care visits and supplier audits
- Investigate and resolve customer complaints
- Report quality performance and issues
- Management Systems
- Maintain integrated management systems aligned to ISO 9001, ISO 14001
- Support internal and external audits
- Review and improve SHEQ procedures and documentation
- Assist with SHEQ training, competency, and continuous improvement initiatives
What We're Looking For:
- A Health & Safety or Environmental qualification (e.g. NEBOSH or IOSH) or equivalent competency
- Strong working knowledge of HSE legislation and management systems
- Confident communicator with a proactive, organised approach
- Good IT skills (MS Office)
