SEN teaching Assistant – Wembley

Helping a child communicate their needs, join in a lesson or approach something new with confidence takes patience, understanding and skill. If you have experience supporting children with SEN, this SEN teaching Assistant opportunity in Wembley offers the chance to make that difference throughout the school week.

SENDhelp is recruiting for a primary school supporting pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, including children with complex needs, speech and language needs, and autism (ASD).

About the school

This diverse primary school in Wembley places inclusion and equality at the centre of its approach. Its curriculum is designed to engage children with different learning needs, with an emphasis on communication, independence and both academic and personal development.

Staff and leaders work together to identify SEND early and provide support through classroom teaching and additional interventions. The school values strong relationships with families and a calm, consistent approach to supporting behaviour, recognising that children need understanding, clear guidance and a sense of belonging to learn successfully.

For a SEN teaching Assistant, this offers a setting where thoughtful support can help children participate more confidently in everyday school life.

Your role as SEN teaching Assistant

Working with KS1 and KS2 pupils in Wembley, you will help make learning accessible and support children to develop confidence and independence.

Your contribution will include:

Supporting pupils with complex needs, autism, and speech and language needs to access classroom activities.

Following the class teacher’s guidance and adapting your communication to individual children.

Giving pupils time, encouragement and clear explanations to support their understanding.

Building trusting relationships and helping children engage with learning and daily routines.

Encouraging participation, interaction and increasing independence.

Sharing observations with teaching staff to help inform pupils’ ongoing support.

What we’re looking for

For this SEN teaching Assistant position in Wembley, experience working with children with SEN is essential, alongside a sound understanding of autism and how individual needs can affect communication, learning and participation.

You will bring patience, empathy and the ability to remain calm and consistent. You should be comfortable taking guidance, working collaboratively and adjusting your approach to suit the child.

No specific formal qualification is required. Practical SEN experience and understanding are central to this opportunity. Experience with primary-aged children, complex needs or speech and language needs would strengthen your application.

Why this opportunity stands out

This long-term SEN teaching Assistant role offers a consistent Monday–Friday pattern and the opportunity to build meaningful relationships over time. For someone seeking full-time work in Wembley, it is a chance to use existing SEN experience while contributing to children’s communication, participation and growing independence.
