We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head of Inclusion to join our Senior Leadership Team in Staines. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled Head of Inclusion to make a significant difference to the lives of young people aged 16–25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Based in Staines, our specialist post-16 provision supports learners through vocational and foundation pathways, helping them develop confidence, independence, employability skills and positive outcomes for adulthood.
As Head of Inclusion, you will lead inclusion, therapeutic provision and safeguarding across our Staines setting. The successful Head of Inclusion will work closely with learners, families, local authorities and external agencies to ensure every learner receives the support they need to achieve their potential.
About the Head of Inclusion Role
The Head of Inclusion will be responsible for leading and developing inclusive practice across our provision in Staines. You will oversee therapeutic services, coordinate EHCP-related support, act as Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), and contribute to strategic leadership and quality improvement. This role is ideal for an experienced SEND professional with leadership experience within Further Education, Specialist Education, Alternative Provision or Post-16 settings.
Key Responsibilities of the Head of Inclusion
- Contribute actively to the Senior Leadership Team, strategic planning, self-assessment and quality improvement processes.
- Lead on inclusion strategy and policy implementation.
- Present Inclusion and Safeguarding reports to Trustees and Governors.
- Support organisational development and continuous improvement initiatives across the Staines provision.
Safeguarding and Inclusion
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
- Lead safeguarding meetings and oversee safeguarding systems and records.
- Work closely with learners, families and carers to promote wellbeing and safety.
- Liaise with Local Authorities, LADO, Police, Social Services and other statutory agencies.
- Monitor attendance, behaviour and learner engagement to identify and address barriers to learning.
- Train and support staff in inclusive practice and safeguarding responsibilities.
- Promote high expectations and positive outcomes for all learners.
- Support lesson observations, learning walks and learner progress reviews.
Therapeutic Services
- Lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary therapy team including Speech and Language Therapy (SALT), Occupational Therapy (OT), Counselling, Physiotherapy and Therapy Assistants.
- Ensure timely assessment and delivery of therapeutic support in line with EHCP requirements.
- Manage therapy budgets and resources effectively.
- Oversee Annual Reviews, ensuring statutory deadlines and quality standards are met.
- Chair complex Annual Review meetings when required.
- Advise staff on therapeutic approaches to learning, behaviour and attendance.
- Develop and review Positive Behaviour Support Plans, Individual Learning Plans and learner profiles.
Admissions and Quality Assurance
- Assess therapeutic support requirements for prospective learners.
- Contribute to admissions decisions and placement planning.
- Cost and plan support packages to meet learner needs.
- Line manage the Quality Assurance Officer and support compliance activities.
Professional Development
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of SEND legislation, safeguarding requirements and sector developments.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
- Maintain an individual Professional Development Plan.
About You
To be successful as our Head of Inclusion, you will have:
- Significant experience working with young people with SEND.
- Experience of safeguarding leadership and acting as a DSL, or the ability to undertake DSL responsibilities immediately.
- Strong knowledge of EHCPs, SEND legislation and inclusive practice.
- Experience of managing multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
- A commitment to improving outcomes for young people with additional needs.
