We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Tutor to join a specialist post-16 education provision based in the Staines / Heathrow area. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to support young people aged 16–25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) as they develop confidence, independence, employability skills and the knowledge needed for successful adulthood. This position is ideal for someone with experience in SEND education, Further Education or vocational learning who is passionate about helping learners achieve positive outcomes. The role is easily commutable from Staines, Heathrow, Ashford, Egham, Slough and surrounding areas.

As an SEN Tutor based in Staines / Heathrow, you will plan, prepare and deliver engaging learning programmes tailored to meet the individual needs of learners working at a range of abilities. You will teach small groups, adapting your teaching style to ensure every learner can achieve their potential. You will deliver personalised learning using recognised educational frameworks while supporting learners to develop functional English and Maths, employability skills, personal development, communication, independence and confidence. Working within a specialist SEND environment, you will play an important role in preparing learners for further education, supported internships, employment and independent living.

Key Responsibilities

As an SEN Tutor, you will:

  • Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality lessons and schemes of work.
  • Deliver personalised teaching programmes that meet individual learner needs.
  • Teach learners within small groups using creative and engaging teaching methods.
  • Adapt learning to support learners with a range of additional needs and abilities.
  • Embed English, Maths, PSHE and British Values throughout the curriculum.
  • Promote learners' personal, social and emotional development.
  • Encourage independence, confidence and employability skills.
  • Create an inclusive, safe and supportive learning environment.
Assessment and Progress

You will:

  • Assess learner progress using recognised RARPA methodologies.
  • Maintain learner portfolios, progress records and achievement documentation.
  • Produce learner reports and contribute to progress reviews and annual reviews.
  • Set, monitor and review individual learner targets.
  • Support quality assurance processes and maintain accurate educational records.
  • Celebrate learner achievement and progression.
Collaboration and Development

You will:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to develop learning resources and schemes of work.
  • Contribute to curriculum planning and continuous improvement.
  • Develop engaging learning activities that prepare learners for adulthood, employment and independent living.
  • Support learners in developing workplace, communication and life skills relevant to opportunities across the local community.
Learner Support and Safeguarding

You will:

  • Work closely with parents, carers and external professionals to ensure positive learner outcomes.
  • Promote positive behaviour and learner wellbeing.
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety and risk assessment procedures at all times.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for all learners.
Professional Development

This role offers ongoing professional development and the opportunity to enhance teaching practice through regular CPD. The successful candidate will be encouraged to work towards or further develop recognised teaching qualifications, including the Award in Education and Training or Diploma in Education and Training where appropriate.

About You

To be successful as an SEN Tutor, you will have:

  • Experience working with young people with SEND.
  • Strong teaching, coaching or training skills.
  • The ability to adapt teaching approaches to meet individual learner needs.
  • A good understanding of English and Maths.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • A genuine commitment to helping young people achieve positive outcomes.
  • A passion for inclusive education and preparing learners for adulthood.
  • Experience within Further Education, specialist SEND education or vocational learning would be highly advantageous.
