About the School
This specialist setting provides a nurturing, structured and highly supportive learning environment for some of the youngest pupils with complex Special Educational Needs.
Children attending the setting have a range of additional needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), sensory processing differences, physical needs, social and emotional needs, and severe or profound learning difficulties.
Teaching is delivered through a personalised, child-centred curriculum with a strong emphasis on communication, independence, structured routines and therapeutic support, helping every child develop confidence and achieve their individual potential.
Pupils benefit from specialist approaches including total communication, sensory learning, Makaton, Attention Autism and integrated therapy throughout the school day.
The Role β Learning Support Assistant
As a
Learning Support Assistant , you will work alongside experienced teachers and therapists to provide tailored support for children with a wide range of SEND, ensuring they can access learning in a safe, engaging and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEND.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging, differentiated learning activities.
- Support children with communication using visual supports, Makaton and other communication strategies where appropriate.
- Encourage the development of independence, social interaction and emotional regulation.
- Support sensory activities and therapeutic interventions throughout the school day.
- Assist with personal care and mobility needs where required.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
- Help create a positive, safe and nurturing classroom environment.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, families and the wider multidisciplinary team.
- Follow safeguarding, behaviour and health & safety procedures at all times.
Qualifications & Experience Required
We are looking for a
Learning Support Assistant who has
- Experience working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs.
- A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
- Knowledge or experience of Autism, communication needs, sensory processing or complex learning needs is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Patience, resilience and a positive attitude.
- The ability to build trusting relationships with pupils.
- Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification are desirable but not essential.
Equivalent experience within education, care or support work will also be considered.
