We are recruiting for a dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a primary‑aged pupil with Autism who presents with challenging behaviours within a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Hemel Hempstead.
Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism throughout the school day.
- Implement strategies to support the child's emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
- Build a trusting, consistent relationship that promotes confidence and engagement.
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals to deliver personalised support.
- Adapt learning activities to meet the child's individual needs and learning style.
- Use positive behaviour management techniques to de‑escalate challenging situations safely and effectively.
- Encourage communication, social interaction and independence both inside and outside the classroom.
- Monitor progress and contribute to observations and feedback for the wider school team.
- Ensure the child's safety, wellbeing and inclusion at all times.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience supporting children with Autism and/or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
- Calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider school team.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
