We are recruiting for a dedicated 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support a primary‑aged pupil with Autism who presents with challenging behaviours within a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Hemel Hempstead.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism throughout the school day.
  • Implement strategies to support the child's emotional regulation and positive behaviour.
  • Build a trusting, consistent relationship that promotes confidence and engagement.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and external professionals to deliver personalised support.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the child's individual needs and learning style.
  • Use positive behaviour management techniques to de‑escalate challenging situations safely and effectively.
  • Encourage communication, social interaction and independence both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Monitor progress and contribute to observations and feedback for the wider school team.
  • Ensure the child's safety, wellbeing and inclusion at all times.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience supporting children with Autism and/or challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
  • Calm, patient and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs.
  • The ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider school team.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.
