About The Role
We are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant in Salford to join our friendly and inclusive primary school. This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a mainstream setting.
As a key member of our support team, you will provide one‑to‑one and small‑group assistance to pupils with a range of needs, including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, communication needs, sensory needs, and learning delays. You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to create a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment for every child.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with SEND on a 1:1 and group basis, adapting learning to meet individual needs.
- Assist in delivering personalised learning plans, EHCP targets, and interventions.
- Use a variety of communication methods (visual aids, social stories, Makaton, etc.) to support understanding.
- Promote positive behaviour through patience, de‑escalation techniques, and consistent routines.
- Help create a calm, nurturing, and safe learning environment.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCO, and other staff to ensure inclusive practice.
- Support pupils with sensory regulation and emotional wellbeing throughout the day.
- Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews, assessments, and progress reports.
- Assist with personal care tasks when required (training provided).
About You
- Is passionate about supporting pupils with SEND and improving outcomes for all learners.
- Has experience or a strong interest in working with children with additional needs.
- Shows empathy, patience, and a positive, calm approach.
- Has strong communication skills and the ability to build trusting relationships.
- Can work well as part of a team and is confident following guidance from teachers and the SENCO.
- Is flexible, proactive, and committed to safeguarding and inclusive practice.
