We are seeking a caring, patient, and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to support children in our EYFS setting. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers and the SENDCo to provide high-quality, child-centred support to pupils with additional needs, helping them to access learning, develop communication and social skills, and feel safe and valued within the school environment. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about early intervention and making a positive difference during a crucial stage of a child’s development.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small-group support for children with SEND in EYFS
- Support children with communication, interaction, sensory, and emotional needs
- Assist with the delivery of tailored learning and play-based activities
- Promote independence, confidence, and positive behaviour
- Use visual supports, routines, and communication strategies where appropriate
- Observe and record progress, sharing feedback with teachers and the SENDCo
- Support personal care routines where required
- Work closely with parents/carers and external professionals as directed
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience working with children in EYFS, ideally with SEND
- A nurturing, patient, and flexible approach
- Good understanding of child development and early years practice
- Ability to support children with ASD, speech and language needs, and sensory differences
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting children’s wellbeing
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. Level 2/3 Supporting Teaching and Learning) are desirable
