We are seeking an experienced and skilled SEND Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work 1:1 with a learner with Down syndrome, delivering highly specialised interventions to support access to the curriculum as well as the learner’s social, emotional, and communication needs.

This role is ideal for a confident HLTA with strong SEND experience who can work independently, adapt provision creatively, and play an active role in planning and delivering personalised support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver highly specialised 1:1 interventions across the curriculum
  • Support the learner’s social, emotional, and communication development
  • Adapt learning materials and teaching strategies to meet individual needs
  • Use structured, multi-sensory, and inclusive approaches to learning
  • Support engagement, independence, and confidence
  • Monitor progress and contribute to assessments and support plans
  • Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENDCo, and external professionals
  • Maintain a calm, consistent, and nurturing learning environment
Essential Requirements
  • HLTA status or equivalent experience at HLTA level
  • Proven experience working with learners with Down syndrome
  • Strong understanding of SEND strategies and inclusive practice
  • Experience delivering targeted interventions independently
  • Ability to support both academic and social/emotional needs
  • Patient, flexible, and empathetic approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable
  • Experience working with learners with complex or additional needs
  • Familiarity with EHCPs and personalised learning plans
  • Experience working closely with external agencies or therapists
  • Relevant SEND training or qualifications
