We are seeking an experienced and skilled SEND Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to work 1:1 with a learner with Down syndrome, delivering highly specialised interventions to support access to the curriculum as well as the learner’s social, emotional, and communication needs.
This role is ideal for a confident HLTA with strong SEND experience who can work independently, adapt provision creatively, and play an active role in planning and delivering personalised support.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver highly specialised 1:1 interventions across the curriculum
- Support the learner’s social, emotional, and communication development
- Adapt learning materials and teaching strategies to meet individual needs
- Use structured, multi-sensory, and inclusive approaches to learning
- Support engagement, independence, and confidence
- Monitor progress and contribute to assessments and support plans
- Work collaboratively with class teachers, SENDCo, and external professionals
- Maintain a calm, consistent, and nurturing learning environment
- HLTA status or equivalent experience at HLTA level
- Proven experience working with learners with Down syndrome
- Strong understanding of SEND strategies and inclusive practice
- Experience delivering targeted interventions independently
- Ability to support both academic and social/emotional needs
- Patient, flexible, and empathetic approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Experience working with learners with complex or additional needs
- Familiarity with EHCPs and personalised learning plans
- Experience working closely with external agencies or therapists
- Relevant SEND training or qualifications
