We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Teaching Assistant with BSL Level 6 qualification to provide dedicated 1:1 support for a student with hearing difficulties within a secondary school in St Helens. This is a rewarding long-term opportunity for a specialist practitioner who is passionate about supporting young people with communication needs and ensuring they can fully access learning, social opportunities, and school life.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialist communication support for a student with hearing impairment throughout the school day.
- Interpret and facilitate communication using British Sign Language (BSL) at an advanced level.
- Support the student in accessing the curriculum across a range of subjects.
- Work closely with teaching staff, SENDCO, external professionals, and the student’s family to ensure effective support strategies are in place.
- Adapt learning materials and communication methods to meet the student’s individual needs.
- Promote independence, confidence, and inclusion within the classroom and wider school environment.
- Monitor progress and contribute to reviews and support plans.
Essential Requirements
- BSL Level 6 qualification (essential).
- Extensive experience supporting children or young people with hearing impairments.
- Expert knowledge of communication needs and inclusive educational practices.
