Nurture Mentor - Specialist SEMH School Location: Princes Risborough, Buckinghamshire Pay: Β£115-Β£123.83 per day, dependent on experience Contract: Long-term / Temp-to-Perm opportunities Start Date: Immediate About the Role SEND Inclusion Support are looking for an experienced and compassionate Nurture Mentor to join a specialist SEMH school in Princes Risborough , supporting young people aged 11-16 . This is a relationship-led role for someone who understands that, for many young people with SEMH needs, building trust and emotional safety is an important part of enabling them to engage with education . The school provides specialist support for young people who may have experienced significant barriers to education and require a more individualised, structured and nurturing approach. As a Nurture Mentor, you will work closely with young people to help them develop confidence, emotional regulation, resilience and positive relationships , while supporting them to access learning and make progress. What You'll Be Doing Your role will be centred around the individual needs of the young people you support. You may be supporting pupils with: Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs Anxiety and emotional regulation difficulties Autism and other SEND Behavioural and emotional challenges Low confidence or self-esteem Communication and interaction needs Difficulties engaging with education Complex social, emotional or personal needs Your responsibilities will include: Building strong, trusting and consistent relationships with young people. Providing 1:1 and small-group nurture and mentoring support. Supporting pupils to recognise and manage their emotions. Helping young people develop coping strategies and greater emotional resilience. Encouraging positive engagement with education and school routines. Supporting pupils through periods of anxiety, dysregulation or difficulty. Helping young people develop confidence, independence and self-awareness. Acting as a consistent and trusted adult within the school environment. Working alongside teachers and the wider specialist team. Supporting pupils with transitions and changes to routine. Encouraging positive behaviour and helping pupils understand the impact of their choices. Adapting your approach to suit individual needs, communication styles and circumstances. Maintaining professional records and communicating relevant information to the wider team. The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who can genuinely connect with young people and understands that progress isn't always measured by academic achievement alone. You may already have experience as a: Nurture Mentor | Learning Mentor | Behaviour Mentor | SEMH Mentor | SEND Support Worker | Pastoral Mentor | Teaching Assistant | Youth Worker | Family Support Worker Experience working within a specialist SEMH, SEND, alternative provision or similar setting would be highly beneficial. We're particularly interested in people who are: Warm, patient and approachable. Calm and consistent, even when situations become challenging. Confident supporting young people with complex emotional needs. Skilled at building relationships while maintaining appropriate boundaries. Able to understand the needs behind behaviour. Emotionally resilient and able to remain professional under pressure. Creative and flexible in their approach to engaging young people. Committed to helping young people develop confidence and independence. Reliable and able to provide the consistency that young people need. CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training would be advantageous , particularly given the nature of the setting. CPI training provides practical skills around de-escalation, responding to distressed or challenging behaviour and maintaining safety during incidents. Why SEND Inclusion Support?
