dedicated, nurturing and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant
to join our specialist provision within a welcoming mainstream primary school in
St Helens . Our specialist SEMH provision supports
primary-aged children with social, emotional and mental health needs , providing a safe, structured and nurturing environment where children can develop confidence, build positive relationships and achieve their potential. The Role As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work as part of a committed and supportive team, providing high-quality support to children who may experience difficulties with emotional regulation, social interaction, communication, behaviour and engagement with learning. You will play a key role in helping children to: Develop positive relationships with adults and peers Build confidence, resilience and self-esteem Develop emotional regulation and coping strategies Access learning in a way that meets their individual needs Manage challenges and transitions throughout the school day Develop independence and life skills Celebrate their achievements and recognise their strengths The role will involve working closely with the
class teacher, SENCO, pastoral team and wider school staff
to ensure children receive consistent, individualised support. The Ideal Candidate We are looking for someone who is: Warm, patient and nurturing Calm and confident when supporting children experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties Resilient and able to remain consistent during challenging situations Understanding of
SEMH and SEND needs Skilled at building trusting and positive relationships with children Able to use positive behaviour strategies and promote emotional regulation A strong team player with excellent communication skills Committed to inclusion and ensuring every child feels valued and understood Able to see the
child behind the behaviour
and respond with empathy rather than judgement Previous experience of working with children with
SEMH, SEND, behavioural or emotional needs
would be highly desirable. Experience within a school or specialist setting is advantageous, although we would also welcome applications from individuals with relevant transferable experience.
