The Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and resilient Food Technology Teacher to join their specialist provision supporting pupils with additional needs. This is a rewarding opportunity to deliver engaging, practical learning within a therapeutic education environment, combining high-quality teaching with strong pastoral support. The role focuses on supporting pupils with neurodiversity, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will deliver creative and hands-on Food Technology lessons, helping pupils develop essential life skills, independence, and confidence, while re-engaging them in education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons for KS3 pupils
  • Deliver practical, skills-based learning in a safe and structured environment
  • Adapt lessons to meet the needs of pupils with ASC and SEMH
  • Develop creative schemes of work and projects linked to real-life skills and EHCP targets
  • Incorporate literacy and numeracy skills into Food Technology lessons
  • Ensure all health and safety and food hygiene standards are consistently followed

Pupil Support & Engagement

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to support engagement and wellbeing
  • Support pupils in developing independence, life skills, and confidence
  • Use positive reinforcement and consistent behaviour strategies
  • Work closely with therapeutic teams to support emotional regulation and behaviour

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with support staff to deliver differentiated learning
  • Support and guide classroom staff in practical lessons and behaviour management
  • Liaise with families and multi-disciplinary teams where appropriate
  • Contribute to a consistent, nurturing learning environment

Assessment & Reporting

  • Monitor and track pupil progress, providing regular feedback
  • Produce reports and updates for senior leadership
  • Ensure risk assessments are in place for practical lessons and activities
  • Maintain accurate records in line with safeguarding and school policies

Candidate Profile

Essential requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Experience teaching Food Technology or a related subject at KS3 level
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND, particularly ASC and/or SEMH
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and health & safety in practical settings
