Job Summary

We’re seeking a skilled and motivated staff level Physical Digital Design Engineer to join our UK Digital Design team. You will be instrumental in the physical implementation of digital IP for our next-generation mixed-signal optical ICs. Working closely with the front-end design team, you will drive the physical design flow from synthesis to GDSII, collaborating with the layout team to ensure integration success. This is a high-impact role ideal for a proactive individual with deep expertise in place-and-route, timing closure, and modern CMOS technology nodes.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the physical implementation of digital blocks, from netlist to GDSII, including: Abstract creation, power planning, and floorplanning
  • Pin and block placement
  • Clock Tree Synthesis (CTS) and balancing
  • Static Timing Analysis (STA) and closure
  • DRC/LVS verification
  • EMIR power analysis and issue resolution
  • Lead flow setup and technology configuration; experience with Synopsys Lynx is a plus
  • Perform synthesis in Cadence and Synopsys environments; adapt and optimise constraints
  • Liaise effectively with the front-end RTL design team to ensure successful handoff and integration
  • Collaborate closely with analog design and layout engineers to ensure mixed-signal compatibility
  • Contribute to cross-functional development teams across digital, analogue, validation, and product engineering

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years’ industry experience in physical digital design
  • Proven expertise with industry-standard EDA tools (Cadence, Synopsys)
  • Experience with multi-power domain and low-power digital design techniques
  • Strong skills in scripting (e.g., TCL, Python, PERL, Make) for automation
  • Familiarity with advanced CMOS technologies, ideally from 180nm to 28nm and below
  • Track record of successful tapeouts and mass production deployments
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written)
  • UK working rights required
