The Sr Staff Product Engineer, Lifecycle Engineering is responsible for margin improvement and sustaining activities for Semtech products, from production release to end of life, across a diverse range of markets, processes, technologies, and requirements. In this role, you will lead technical investigations that directly impact product margins and profitability. You will own the triage and resolution of production issues across test, foundry, and assembly domains for multiple product lines. Your involvement spans all stages of a product's lifecycle, including process changes, improvements, and ongoing maintenance. As a central resource, you will play a key role in achieving annual business plan goals by partnering with Quality, Operations, Marketing, NPI Product Engineering, and Test Engineering teams to ensure seamless production. You will be accountable for resolving critical production issues promptly, driving test and yield optimizations with test engineers, implementing test screens for customer returns, and providing technical leadership to cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Production Support & Quality Management (50%)
- First point of contact for RMA/FA/customer requests handling, and SAP updates for yield/test times
- Manage production products disposition/NCMRs
- Ensure timely and effective management of customer returns and non-conforming production
- Coordinate and complete all Product Engineering deliverables during qualifications, production transfers, and capacity ramp-ups
- Coordinate manufacturing documentation for production transfer and product maintenance
- Maintain product bill of materials and routings, and all product documentation
- Maintain product data and COGs in the existing management systems
- Work with Production and Off-Shore Assembly and Test Suppliers to deliver to forecast
- Liaison with various internal and external staff to ensure security of supply (Production Planners, Product, Design, and Test Engineers, Quality Assurance and Failure Analysis personnel)
- Yield & Test Optimization (25%)
- Regular monitoring of yields and quality at all processing steps
- Understand and implement yield and quality process improvements
- Drive optimization of all manufacturing processes leading to reduced cost of product (COP), predictable yields, and quality levels that exceed customer expectations
- Drive manufacturing margin improvement and quality targets and requirements, working with Test Engineering to reduce test time and improve test coverage
- Perform capability analysis, margin analysis, correlation studies and yield modeling on new products
- Review and optimize coverage, test limits and guard banding
- Identify top yield loss Pareto opportunities and enact process solutions
- Understand and optimize factors that affect product yield and quality
- Interface with development engineers by reviewing and influencing the design for manufacturability for new products
- Problem Resolution & Failure Analysis (15%)
- Drive the resolution of failure analysis, root cause and corrective actions for field returns
- Develop product specific failure analysis flow if appropriate
- Follow structured problem-solving methodologies to identify and eliminate sources of test fallout
- Work with Production Process/Packaging Engineering in the resolution of problems during wafer fabrication, packaging, die sort and final package test
- Continuous Improvement & Collaboration (10%)
- Project management of the above product engineering responsibilities
- Collaborate with other engineers or teams to qualify and validate improvements
- Apply a "lessons learned" approach to ensure implementation of yield improvements
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS in Electrical Engineering or related field and a minimum of 5 - 8 years relevant work experience.
- Experience in semi-conductor technology, product, test and/or design engineering.
- Experience with quality systems including corrective actions, 8D reports, non-conformance reports, and failure analysis reports.
- Knowledge and experience with statistical theory and data analysis tools (e.g. Excel, JMP, Galaxy, dataConductor) for design of experiments, yield reporting and modelling.
- Experience in high-speed digital ATE test platforms (e.g. Advantest, Teradyne) or equivalent rack solutions is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of high-speed serial digital interconnect components and test methodologies
- Experience with JEDEC, and/or Mil quality requirements.
