- We are looking for an experienced
- Senior
Design Engineer to join Semmco at our Woking site.
This is a hands-on role responsible for designing a range of access platforms and ground support equipment from initial concept through to manufacture, installation and aftersales support.
Responsibilities
- Design access platforms, ground support equipment and structural assemblies from initial brief through to completion.
- Produce clear, accurate technical drawings suitable for internal and external manufacture.
- Design sheet-metal components optimised for laser/waterjet cutting and bending, balancing cost, function and manufacturability.
- Design practical fabrication and weldment solutions with consideration for joint design, welding methods and material selection.
- Select and specify standard and bought-in parts and equipment.
- Apply sound mechanical principles to bearings, sliders, drive mechanisms and load paths.
- Support designs through manufacture, packing, shipping and on-site installation, including worldwide projects.
- Work collaboratively with the wider design team, maintaining clear revision control and documented design changes.
- Provide technical support on the shop floor and during installations.
- Carry out design checks and support simple FEA for design verification where required.
- Knowledge and skills
- 3+ years’ experience in a mechanical or design engineering role, with a proven record of delivered projects.
- Experience with sheet-metal design, fabrication, weldments and structural assemblies.
- Confident producing and checking detailed technical drawings.
- Strong understanding of common steels, aluminium, coatings, finishes and relevant plastics.
- Experience using CAD software;
Autodesk Inventor is preferred.
- Experience with PDM/PLM systems; Autodesk Vault experience would be advantageous.
- Understanding of revision control, documented changes and design traceability.
- Experience designing GSE, access equipment, aviation, rail or similar equipment would be advantageous.
- Relevant engineering qualification such as HND/Degree, or equivalent industry experience.
- Practical, hands-on approach with strong problem-solving skills.
- Clear and confident communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to self-check and buddy-check designs.
- Ability to take ownership of projects from sales handover through to manufacture and aftersales support.
- UK right to work required.
- Based at the
Woking, Surrey site.
