Wrexham County Borough Council is seeking an Attendance Support Officer to join the Education and Early Intervention Department’s Education Social Work team, based across schools and the Learning Centre at Whitegate, Wrexham (LL11 1AR).
This is a community-facing role at the heart of improving school attendance across the county borough.
You will work directly with pupils and their families to remove barriers to education, completing home visits, running Attendance Improvement Plans (AIPs), and making referrals to partner agencies.
You will conduct attendance audits in schools, advise senior management teams on findings, and contribute to multiagency meetings including TAC, pastoral support plan, and reintegration meetings.
Key Responsibilities
- Daily home visits.
- Safeguarding awareness and referral to Children’s Services as required.
- Liaising with third-sector providers.
- Supporting the Youth Justice Prevention team where appropriate.
- Managing detailed case records and producing data and reports for Estyn inspection purposes.
Qualifications
- At least five GCSEs at grade C or above and ideally a Level 4 qualification in a relevant discipline (youth and community work, health and social care, or equivalent).
- Experience working with vulnerable young people in educational settings.
- Knowledge of attendance legislation.
- Competency in ICT and data management.
- Ability to travel independently across the county borough.
- Welsh language skills are desirable.
