Job Summary

South Tyneside Council is seeking a dedicated and passionate Senior Social Worker to join their Connected Carers Team on a locum basis, based at the Town Hall, South Shields (NE33 2RL), starting 20 July 2026.

Responsibilities

In this role you will support a duty rota responding to emergency viabilities and Regulation 24 placements, alongside carrying a caseload of viability assessments, full kinship assessments, and ongoing support of Kinship Carers. Assessments are presented to the Fostering Panel and, where required, to the court arena depending on timescales and the nature of each carer’s pathway.

Qualifications

You will need to be a qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience in fostering, kinship care, or connected persons assessments. Experience presenting to fostering panels and working within court proceedings is highly desirable.
