Overview

Oldham Council’s Children with Additional & Complex Needs Team is recruiting a qualified Social Worker to join a busy, Ofsted-rated Good service embedded in systemic practice. This team manages a broad and varied caseload spanning Short Breaks, Child in Need, Child Protection, PLO, Court, Children Looked After, Transitions, and Adoption.

Responsibilities

  • Develop specialist knowledge in Mental Capacity Assessments, Best Interest Meetings, Court of Protection, and Inherent Jurisdiction applications.
  • Engage in creative communication with a range of verbal and non-verbal children and young people.
  • Complete carers assessments and arrange respite care packages.
  • Support young people transitioning from children’s to adult services.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Social Worker, Social Work England registered.
  • Minimum 3 years post‑qualifying experience.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of safeguarding children and looked‑after processes.
  • Completion of the DfE Recommendation Compliance Questions prior to submission.
  • 5 years referencing required; employment‑history gaps will be checked.

Contract

Rate: £39 per hour. Contract duration: 22 June – 31 December 2026. Location: George Street, Oldham, OL1 1HD.
