Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is seeking a Library Service Support Assistant to join the Libraries team at Central Library, Merthyr Tydfil. This is a temporary day-rate role paying £96.57–£129.90 per day, starting 22 September 2026.

You will support the Principal Librarian, Operational Librarians, and Member Advisors in delivering a high-standard library service that meets Welsh Public Library Standards. Day-to-day duties include staffing issue and enquiry desks, answering and redirecting user enquiries, shelving and maintaining library stock, handling cash and card payments, data input and record-keeping, and supporting events and meetings within library buildings.

You will also assist ICT users in group and individual settings, contribute to stock control and inter-library loan services, and carry out general cleaning, tidying, and health and safety responsibilities.

Essential requirements include a minimum of 3 GCSEs (including English Language) or equivalent, IT competency, and Welsh Language Level 1. Customer service experience is desirable, as is Welsh Language Level 2–5.
