St. Helens Metropolitan Borough Council is recruiting a Family Support Worker to join its Children and Young Peoples Services Department, based at Atlas House, Corporation Street, St Helens (WA9 1LD). This is a temporary role paying £14.82–£19.22 per hour, starting 24 August 2026.

Working alongside qualified social workers, you will provide practical, hands‑on support to children, young people, and their families who are subject to statutory procedures within Children’s Social Care. Your caseload will involve outreach and home‑visiting work with hard‑to‑engage families, delivering intervention programmes, contributing to assessments, and supporting supervised Family Time arrangements — including evenings and weekends on a rota basis.

Key responsibilities

  • Monitoring family progress using tools such as Signs of Safety and Graded Care Profile.
  • Ensuring the voice of the child is central to all records and care plans.
  • Preparing reports for court and case conferences.
  • Attending LAC Reviews and Family Action Meetings.
  • Liaising closely with partner agencies including police, housing, health, and education providers.
  • Providing support on a rota basis during evenings and weekends.
  • Delivering interventions and supervised Family Time arrangements.
