Northumberland County Council is seeking a Safer Communities Officer (Housing) based at Eddie Ferguson House, Blyth (NE24 3AG) for a temporary contract running from 24 August to 21 November 2026, paying £23.25 per hour. This role sits within a reactive and proactive Safer Neighbourhood team responsible for investigating and resolving anti-social behaviour (ASB) within Northumberland's housing stock.
Working alongside two other Safer Neighbourhood Officers under the Senior Safer Neighbourhood Officer, you will manage a day-to-day caseload that includes:
- Gathering evidence
- Conducting home visits
- Interviewing all relevant parties
- Keeping detailed case records
Key responsibilities include:
- Representing Northumberland County Council at ASB case reviews (Community Trigger)
- Safeguarding and adult and children's services meetings
- Coordinating operations with Northumbria Police and other partners - including out-of-hours when required
- Preparing witness statements and court bundles
- Attending court on behalf of the Council
- Taking enforcement action under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 and the Housing Acts 1985 and 1996
Candidates must hold a valid UK driving licence and bring demonstrable experience of managing and investigating high-level ASB within a local authority or similar environment, along with knowledge of civil and criminal court procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
