Somerset Council is seeking an experienced Adults Social Worker to join a dedicated Learning Disabilities Review Project based in Taunton (TA1 4DY), operating on a hybrid basis with a minimum of two days per week in the office. The role offers £27.78–£38.00 per hour, starting 10 August 2026.

This is a specialist post focused on undertaking Care Act reviews and reassessments for adults with learning disabilities. You will carry out face‑to‑face visits across Somerset — in people’s homes, supported living, residential settings and community environments — gathering and analysing evidence from multiple sources to produce audit‑ready assessments, support plans and case recordings.

Responsibilities

  • Determine eligibility for statutory reviews or full reassessments
  • Identify Continuing Healthcare (CHC) considerations
  • Participate in multidisciplinary funding discussions
  • Deliver high‑quality, person‑centred, strengths‑based practice throughout

Requirements

  • Recognised Social Work qualification (BA or MA in Social Work or equivalent)
  • Current registration with Social Work England
  • Significant post‑qualifying Adults Social Care experience
  • Strong Learning Disability practice experience
  • Experience of Care Act reviews, reassessments, CHC processes and defensible decision‑making
  • Valid driving licence and access to a vehicle
