Role Overview: Working within the systems team, you will play a vital role in designing, developing, and implementing control systems for our Transitional Energies department. Based in our Westhill office, you will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and reliable solutions across both greenfield and brownfield environments. Your expertise will contribute to a wide range of modification and upgrade projects, including Power‑to‑X (PtX), offshore wind and other key technologies that advance Semco Maritime’s position within the global energy transition. In this role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of control system projects, from initial design and specification to testing, commissioning, and ongoing support. You will engage with clients to interpret their requirements, ensure compliance with industry standards, and provide technical knowledge throughout the project. This position offers a dynamic and varied workload, with opportunities for on-site and offshore work, allowing you to apply your problem-solving skills and technical knowledge in real-world settings. Key Responsibilities:
- Development of design specifications based on customer requirements.
- Produce comprehensive project documentation, including specifications and technical reports.
- Take technical responsibility for assigned tasks and actively participate in design reviews.
- Program, test and commission control systems to ensure compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Diagnose and resolve control systems faults, providing support both on-site and remotely.
- Participate in the systems team on-call support rota to address urgent client needs.
- Foster the growth and development of the systems engineering team through knowledge sharing and mentorship.
- Contribute technical expertise and insights to support business development initiatives.
Skills and Experience:
Essential
- Demonstrated expertise in control and/or safety system applications within the energy sector.
- Comprehensive experience throughout the project lifecycle, including design, installation, commissioning and ongoing client support.
- Proficient in various communications protocols such as Profinet, Profibus, TCP/IP Ethernet and Modbus.
- Highly proactive and motivated self-starter with excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.
Beneficial
- Strong understanding of Functional Safety Management standards (IEC 61508 & IEC61511).
- Proficiency in configuring HMI and SCADA packages.
- Previous experience working with Siemens TIA Portal, Emerson PAC ME, Rockwell RSLogix / Studio 5000 or GE Cimplicity.
Education and Qualifications:
- Degree/HND in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
- Experience in an engineering environment, ideally within the energy sector.
