Semco Maritime has a fantastic opportunity for a Trainee Systems Engineer to join the team in Westhill, Aberdeen on a full-time permanent basis
Your position
As a Trainee Systems Engineer you will support the delivery of control and automation system projects from initial requirements through to testing, commissioning and close-out.
Working alongside experienced engineers you will build your technical knowledge while assisting with system design, programming, HMI and SCADA configuration, fault diagnosis and project documentation.
This is a hands-on development role offering structured training, exposure to customer and site-based environments, and opportunities to travel nationally, internationally and offshore as part of your progression within the Systems Engineering team
Your place of work will be at our Westhill, Aberdeen office, the hub of our UK operations .
As a Trainee Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for
- Supporting the development of design specifications based on customer requirements under the guidance of experienced engineers.
- Assist with the programming, testing and commissioning of control and automation systems, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
- Support the configuration and testing of HMI and SCADA packages.
- Assist in diagnosing and resolving control system faults, both remotely and on-site, with support from senior team members.
- Contribute to the preparation and maintenance of system requirement specifications and system interface documents.
- Assist with the development and execution of system integration, verification and acceptance test procedures.
- Support project activities throughout the project lifecycle, including engineering, testing, documentation and close-out activities.
- Be willing to travel nationally, internationally and offshore when required to support project delivery and development opportunities.

- Will have obtained or working towards an HNC/D or a Degree in Electrical Engineering or a similar Engineering subject.
- Have experience working with engineering projects (Preferred but not essential)
- Be willing and available to work at company and customer premises as required.
- Maintain a professional and customer-focused approach at all times.
- Undertake and actively participate in training, mentoring and professional development programmes.
- Comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the Systems Engineering team.
- Assist in the preparation of technical documentation, reports and project records.
- Support business development activities by providing technical input and participating in team discussions when required.
