Purpose of Role:
As a Graduate Energy Trader, you will support the optimisation of Sembcorp Energy UK’s generation assets within the UK Energy markets. You will monitor markets, report on market drivers, and identify potential risks to Sembcorp’s portfolio. After a full training period, you will work as part of a shift team on a 12hr rotation, ensuring that the Trading desk is always covered.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Working 12hr shifts as part of a 24/7 Shift team.
- Execute approved strategies in trading for both the Power and Gas markets.
- Oversee Sembcorp’s generation profile in compliance with contracts, such as Ancillary Services and Balancing Mechanism.
- Control flexible generation assets in real-time.
- Execute dispatch instructions from system operators (e.g. NESO).
- Manage asset availability, outages, and operational constraints.
- Track outages, grid constraints, and system imbalances (e.g. NESO signals in the UK).
- Support trade scheduling and ensure correct allocation.
- Analyse UK Power and Gas market fundamentals, weather forecasts, and price drivers.
- Work alongside field service engineers to support safe operations of flexible generation assets.
- Monitor asset alarms in real time for flexible generation assets.
- Enhance the development and optimisation of trading strategies for current and future assets.
Skills and Experience:
- A relevant Degree such as Maths, Economics, Business, or Finance is preferred.
- Competent with Microsoft Office.
- Enthusiasm to learn about the UK Energy markets.
- Analytical skills.
