This is an opportunity to join Sembcorp UK’s Projects Engineering team at one of the most exciting periods in the company’s growth. Sembcorp is at the heart of the UK’s energy transition, supporting critical energy and industrial infrastructure whilst helping enable the industries that will shape the UK’s future growth.
As Project Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for implementing best practice contracts and cost control measures across the project portfolio. This is a broad, commercially focused role for someone who enjoys variety, wants to work closely with the business and is keen to make a genuine contribution from day one.
You’ll work closely with the Senior Project Manager and Head of FP&A, and with project teams across the UK business, managing budgets, costs and contractors while highlighting project health and any potential opportunities or issues so that action can be taken before a project is impacted.
This is a chance to work on matters that matter: helping deliver infrastructure critical to the UK’s energy transition, supporting industrial growth and contributing to projects that will help shape the future of the Wilton site, Teesside and the wider UK economy.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Accurate cost forecasting and early identification of potential overspends.
- Identification and management of risks and opportunities.
- Management and commercial reporting of multiple projects running concurrently.
- Develop and implement a portfolio reporting system, communicating clear, pertinent project information to the management team.
- Drive proactive continuous improvement in the delivery of projects and their commercial reporting.
- Drive cost effectiveness and savings across the project portfolio.
- Work with the project teams to develop estimates for sanctioning.
- Review, challenge where necessary and agree contractor applications for payment, and raise payment certificates.
- Provide cost to date and cost forecast data, including interrogation of the data to explain spend.
- Prepare and submit accrual data.
- Assist in the development and implementation of new contracts and their reporting and monitoring mechanisms.
- Review and, where appropriate, challenge estimates to ensure cost certainty.
- Calculate and monitor key performance indicators to drive efficiencies and satisfy contractual mechanisms.
- Plan and lead contractor commercial meetings, recording and issuing action logs and minutes.
- Implement and manage change processes in accordance with the contract, and lead final account negotiations and settlements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum HNC or equivalent; a degree in Quantity Surveying or equivalent is desirable.
- Strong contract management experience with excellent contractual and commercial awareness.
- Experience using SAP systems.
- Intermediate/advanced IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong practical Health, Safety and Environmental awareness.
- Excellent communication skills across presentations, meetings and reports.
- Good negotiation skills, with sound numeric and planning/logic ability.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the credibility to influence key stakeholders.
- Flexible in attitude and thought, with a high concern for standards, both personal and in others.
- Able to act on own initiative and make decisions under cost- or time-critical conditions.
- Valid driving licence.
- Cost management experience in Power Generation, Process or Oil & Gas industries, along with project cost management and risk management experience, would be an advantage.
Above all, we are looking for someone who is commercially astute, detail-focused and eager to make a genuine contribution to Sembcorp’s project portfolio in the UK.
