About The Role We are growing our electrical division to meet the ever-increasing needs of our expanding business. To help us achieve this we are looking for a Trainee Electrician to work within our team in the Chandlers Ford area. Within this role you will be responsible for supporting our mobile electricians with installing, maintaining, servicing and repairing electrical and mechanical pump set ups between branches and customer sites across the south region in a safe, professional and efficient manner. Are you working towards your City & Guilds NVQ L2/L3 in Electrical Installation and/or AM2 and have a ECS Trainee Electrician card? Join us to build a career and gain experience as an industrial electrician within a supportive team alongside becoming a Fully Qualified Electrician. This role is designed to provide structured on-the-job training and mentorship, and is a defined progression stage toward Mobile Electrician status. Progression is dependent on demonstrated competence, behavioural standards, completion of required qualifications, and management assessment.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Electrical Operations
    • Assist qualified electricians in carrying out electrical installation, maintenance, and repair work under supervision, in accordance with the I.E.E. Wiring Regulations (BS7671) and Construction Industry Safety Regulations across the Selwood hire fleet and customer sites.
    • Apply knowledge of interpreting wiring diagrams and assist in identifying, analysing, and resolving electrical faults in a range of pumping and control systems.
    • Collate technical information to support the production of reports under supervision and assist with preparing repair estimates and safety recommendations.
    • Accurately complete documentation whilst under supervision including work logs, inspection records, and test certification.
    • Assist with on-site electrical work and installations as well as within the workshop environment, including attending callouts under supervision or additional hours as required by business needs.
    • Promote and uphold Selwood's Mission and Core Values, seeking guidance whenever unsure and maintaining a proactive, safety-first attitude.
  • Health and Safety Compliance
    • Adhere to all relevant Risk Assessments, Method Statements (RAMS), and company SHEQ procedures, maintaining a safe working environment for self and others.
    • Handle parts, materials, and equipment carefully using the correct PPE to avoid unnecessary harm, waste or damage.
    • Report all near misses, unsafe practices, incidents, and accidents using the company's reporting system.
  • Progression and Development
    • Complete Selwood's internal Trainee Electrician development pathway, meeting all required milestones within agreed timescales.
    • Participate in practical learning and on-the-job experience to build knowledge of control systems, instrumentation, and electrical installation standards.
    • Attend reviews with supervisors to monitor progress and competence development.
    • Build and maintain a portfolio of evidence to support qualification and competence within the agreed timescales.
    • Commence NVQ Level 3 in Electrotechnical Systems with the expectation of completion within 12 months.
    • Upon completion of NVQ Level 3, undertake and successfully complete the AM2 assessment (two-day assessment).

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential
    • C&G 2382 - 18th edition IET Wiring Regulation
    • Currently registered as a JIB Trainee Electrician (Stage 3) and actively working towards a Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Systems (or equivalent) and AM2/AM2S assessment.
    • Demonstrable understanding of safe working practices, electrical installation principles, and the importance of compliance with UK regulations.
    • Full UK Driving Licence with the ability and willingness to travel within the region as per business needs.
    • Strong interest in electrical engineering and practical work.
    • Willingness to learn, follow instruction and work safely.
    • Basic problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Good communication and teamwork skills.
    • Good time management skills and reliability.
  • Preferred
    • IOSH Managing Safely SMSTS safety qualification
    • C&G2391 - Inspection Testing & Certification
    • Health and safety awareness training (or willingness to complete)
