Selwood Housing Group is a not-for-profit housing association committed to providing affordable local homes for our customers. We have nearly 7,000 homes for affordable rent and shared ownership in Wiltshire, Somerset and Bath and North-East Somerset and employ over 300 staff from our offices in Trowbridge and Melksham.
The role of the surveyor is pivotal within Selwood, ensuring our tenants' houses are safe, warm, and feel like homes. Surveyors are the first boots on the ground as we continue to keep the roofs sound, the windows draft-free, and the estates blooming. Working closely with our contractors, you will assess properties, deciding what needs fixing or upgrading, and advising on next steps. Additionally, you will manage contracts and oversee work, ensuring the job is done right, on time, and within budget. This particular role will have a heavy focus on grounds and estate management. You will assess potential risks of trees within our estates and advise on any work needed. You will also advise on and manage external cleaning contracts to keep the properties and grounds clean and safe. In time, you will also be responsible for ad hoc construction projects, from inception to delivery, including sheltered housing refurbishments, window replacement, roof replacements, and other large-scale construction projects on both domestic and sheltered properties. This is a varied and interesting role, with plenty of long-term scope to develop your skillset whilst making a tangible impact in the local community.
Key Duties:
- Oversee the Grounds and Estates management to ensure continued improvements for the service
- Undertake procurement activities for new and existing contracts
- Manage contractors' input and outputs in completing works
- Check accuracy of invoices submitted by contractors to maximise cost efficiency
- Review and report on contractual and legal documentation, reports, design drawings and specifications including all external works and site-wide elements
- Provide clear and honest communication with our customers and employ tact and diplomacy when explaining the services we provide to manage expectations appropriately
What we are looking for:
- Strong contract management experience essential
- HNC in Building, Surveying or equivalent experience
- Knowledge of maintenance management and/or construction management
- Experience managing projects within budgetary constraints
- Knowledge of computer systems in a maintenance environment
- Procuring and management of major works projects from inception to completion
- Whilst not essential, reporting skills will be helpful to track targets and compare data for key performance indications
- You will need access to your own vehicle for this role but will be able to claim back mileage
What we offer:
- 27 holiday plus bank holidays
- 2 paid gifted days; one for your birthday and one over Christmas
- Buy/sell up to 1 week's holiday
- Life assurance
- Flexible working opportunities
- Competitive pension (you pay 4%, we pay 4% or choose to opt into our enhanced pension scheme, where you pay 4%, we pay 9%)
- Cycle to work scheme
