The Role
As a Project Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the client side commercial management of construction projects, ensuring effective cost control, contract administration, procurement & tendering, and financial reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
Your role is to protect the client budget and control costs.
The role requires independent management of projects or work packages while supporting commercial deliverables and changes on a project.
- What You’ll Be Doing
- Manage commercial aspects of projects from pre-construction to final account for clients new and existing
- Prepare cost plans, budgets, and tender documentation
- Procure contractors and suppliers in accordance with company procedures
- Administer construction contracts (Mainly JCT but NEC experience is beneficial but not required)
- Prepare valuations, applications for payment, and variation assessments
- Monitor project costs, cash flow, and financial performance
- Produce monthly cost reports and forecasts for the client team
- Manage contractor accounts and payments
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors and consultants
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities on behalf of clients
- Attend client, design, and site meetings
- Support dispute avoidance and resolution processes (with senior team support)
- Act as CA/EA and produce meeting minutes and change control forms with review from senior QS/Associate QS
- Support the wider team in project and business tasks
- Become a valued member of the SJL team and join us on business development events and building your personal brand

- Typically 3–5 years’ experience in quantity surveying or commercial management
- Proficient in QS software and excel
