We are looking for a Principal Conveyancing Officer to join the team at Halton Borough Council to provide advice and expert handling of all areas of commercial conveyancing and land related matters. This is a standout opportunity to join a highly regarded legal team that is strategically positioned in the North West, through excellent transport links between Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and London. A current transformation project of the legal team means that it is an exciting time to join the council as they continue to develop and transform the delivery of legal services.
Key duties of the Principal Conveyancing Officer:
- Carrying out conveyancing and land related tasks of a more complex nature with regard to the purchase and sale of land on behalf of the Council
- Carrying out compulsory purchase and similar statutory processes for the Council
- Meeting conveyancing targets with regard to the Council's Capital/Land programme
- Giving assistance, guidance, and advice to other Officers of the Council with regard to the Council's land ownership
- Undertaking project work relating to property acquisition concerning development regeneration
- Processing of documentation regarding land sales and purchases, business tenancies, charges, mortgages, leases, licences, and related transactions
- Processing of improvement loans and provision of Certificates of Title relating to improvement grant applications
You will be an integral part of a professional legal team delivering legal advice and support. You will be a positive and highly motivated person who is confident, versatile and innovative.
Ideal requirements of the Principal Conveyancing Officer:
- The ideal candidate will have previous experience dealing with commercial conveyancing and land related matters and have well-developed communication skills, both written and verbal
- The ability to communicate effectively with officers internally, and externally with courts, barristers, professional bodies, and members of the public is essential
- Local government experience is desirable, but we welcome applications from people from all parts of the legal sector
- You will be either a Fellow of Chartered Institute of Legal Executive (CILEx), Licensed Conveyancer, Graduate Member of CILEx, Paralegal or hold a Law Degree or suitable equivalent
