Sellick Partnership is working in partnership with a leading and fast-growing UK legal and professional services business to recruit a Debt Control Assistant on a permanent basis. This opportunity sits within a high-performing finance function in a modern, commercially driven organisation that has experienced significant growth in recent years. It offers exposure to a broad and varied ledger, alongside the chance to develop within a business that operates at scale and continues to expand across the UK.
The responsibilities of the Debt Control Assistant will include:
- Managing a high-volume ledger, proactively chasing outstanding debt via phone, email and written communication
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with clients, fee earners and internal stakeholders across the business
- Negotiating repayment plans and agreeing payment terms to ensure timely cash collection
- Investigating and resolving account queries, working collaboratively with internal teams to reach resolution
- Identifying potential risks within the ledger, including early signs of financial distress, and escalating where appropriate
- Escalating aged or complex debt for legal recovery and supporting the process where required
- Carrying out reconciliations and maintaining accurate records across systems and spreadsheets
- Managing and prioritising your own workload to meet deadlines and ensure service levels are maintained
- Supporting wider credit control and transactional finance activities where required
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience within credit control, debt collection or a similar finance role
- Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to negotiate effectively
- Good attention to detail with experience in reconciliations and query resolution
- Strong IT skills, including Excel, Outlook and Word
- Ability to manage workload independently and work collaboratively within a wider team
- Experience within legal or professional services is advantageous but not essential
