An exciting opportunity has come up for two Senior Public Inquiry Lawyer specialists to join a Central Government team to provide high quality services to an interesting Public Inquiry. The client is looking for someone who is an experienced Public Inquiry Lawyer to join their Government team on an initial 12 month contract with the potential of an extension. In order to be eligible for government checks you must have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.

Senior lawyers will be at the forefront of the government's response and will likely be responsible for being the lead for at least one mini-team supporting a group of sensitive witnesses. Senior lawyers may also have responsibility for managing a team of lawyers and paralegals as well as wider team contribution (contributing to training etc).

Key Responsibilities of the Senior Public Inquiry Lawyer:
  • Lead or co-lead a team of lawyers and paralegals delivering support to one or more of our client departments, or identified groups of key witnesses.
  • Project manage and lead teams of external stakeholders (private sector law firms, counsel teams and e-disclosure teams).
  • Provide timely and accurate legal advice to clients.
  • Keep files accurately and comprehensively updated on the case management system (and, in some cases, on paper files).
  • Demonstrate an excellent understanding of the context in which the client operates.
  • Collaborate across groups within the client/core participant to ensure an effective inquiry response is delivered.
Required Skills and Experience of the Senior Public Inquiry Lawyer:
  • Qualified as a Solicitor or Barrister (or equivalent) in the UK (Must have been in the UK for the past 5 years due to Security Clearance required).
  • Minimum of 4 years Post Qualified Experience.
  • Substantial previous experience of public inquiries is essential.
  • Public law experience within the public sector (including insight into the interrelationship between law and politics) is desirable.
