Overview of the Pensions Associate role:

Sellick Partnership is currently recruiting on behalf of a highly regarded national law firm looking to appoint a Pensions Associate, Senior Associate or Legal Director to join its Birmingham office. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and growing pensions team, advising a diverse client base across both the public and private sectors. The successful candidate will work on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious pensions matters, supporting clients with scheme governance, restructuring, compliance, investments, transactional work and pensions disputes. This role offers exposure to complex, high-quality work and genuine opportunities for career progression within a supportive environment.

Key responsibilities of the Pensions Associate will include:

  • Advising clients on all aspects of occupational pension schemes
  • Supporting the creation, operation, restructuring, compliance and winding up of pension schemes
  • Providing pensions advice on corporate transactions, including drafting pensions schedules and admission agreements
  • Advising lenders and corporate clients on pensions risks associated with transactions
  • Supporting pension scheme investments and governance matters
  • Handling contentious pensions work, including Ombudsman complaints, High Court proceedings and claims against third parties
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships while contributing to business development initiatives
  • Supervising and mentoring junior members of the team where appropriate

Required experience for the Pensions Associate position will include:

  • Qualified Solicitor with at least 2 years' PQE in pensions law
  • Experience advising on occupational pension schemes (public sector experience advantageous but not essential)
  • Strong technical ability and excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and meet competing deadlines
  • Commercial awareness with excellent client relationship management skills
  • An interest in business development and networking
  • A collaborative approach and willingness to support junior colleagues
