About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to lead the design, development and optimisation of modern data platforms and pipelines. This is an exciting opportunity to shape how data is managed, integrated and utilised across a large and evolving organisation.
Working closely with technical and business stakeholders, you will play a key role in developing scalable data solutions that enable high-quality reporting, analytics and data-driven decision making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development and maintenance of scalable data pipelines and data platforms.
- Develop and optimise data models, schemas and storage solutions to support analytics and reporting.
- Build robust ETL/ELT processes to integrate data from multiple sources.
- Ensure high standards of data quality, governance, security and compliance.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver effective technical solutions.
- Support data warehousing, data lakes and modern cloud-based data platforms.
- Produce datasets and models for reporting tools such as Power BI.
- Identify opportunities to automate manual data processes and improve operational efficiency.
- Monitor and improve data reliability, performance and availability.
- Support the adoption of Agile ways of working and contribute to continuous service improvement.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to colleagues within the team.
About You
You’ll have strong experience in data engineering together with a passion for building reliable, scalable data solutions.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience working as a Data Engineer or in a similar technical role.
- Strong SQL and experience with one or more programming languages such as Python, R or Scala.
- Experience designing and building ETL/ELT pipelines.
- Knowledge of data modelling, data warehouses, lakehouses or data lakes.
- Experience with Microsoft data technologies such as Fabric, Synapse and Power BI.
- Understanding of data governance, security and GDPR principles.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify innovative solutions.
Desirable
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- ITIL Foundation certification.
- Experience with machine learning concepts or supporting data science initiatives.
- Knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies.
