Sellick Partnership is recruiting a Financial Accountant on behalf of a large, global business headquartered in Newcastle. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract that has resulted from internal resources being redirected to a major business transformation programme. The successful candidate will step into a well-established finance reporting team and take ownership of day-to-day financial accounting responsibilities while the programme runs its course.
Overview of the Financial Accountant role:
Sitting within the finance reporting function and working closely with senior finance leadership, you will be responsible for delivering accurate statutory and regulatory reporting across the business. This is a role for someone who is technically strong, organised and comfortable working with minimal hand-holding - the team needs someone who can pick things up quickly and maintain high standards throughout the contract period. The role is based in Newcastle with 3 days per week in the office.
Key responsibilities of the Financial Accountant will include:
- Taking ownership of statutory and regulatory financial reporting, ensuring all returns are produced accurately and submitted on time
- Preparing VAT returns and managing the relationship with external auditors, dealing with queries promptly and professionally
- Producing meaningful financial commentary and variance analysis to support senior management in understanding business performance
- Maintaining robust financial controls and ensuring records are complete, accurate and reviewed regularly
- Managing tax compliance obligations and ensuring all relevant submissions and returns are completed within required timeframes
- Reviewing and updating financial processes and procedures to ensure they remain fit for purpose and reflect current requirements
- Working cross-functionally with colleagues across finance and other areas of the business to resolve issues and share information
- Contributing to wider finance projects and providing technical accounting input where required
- Keeping an accurate log of all compliance activities, deadlines and filing obligations across the reporting function
What we are looking for in the Financial Accountant:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified - or equivalent experience in a similar reporting role
- Solid working knowledge of Local GAAP and IFRS
- Experience of working through or alongside an external audit process
- Commercially aware with the ability to translate complex financial data into clear, concise reporting
- Strong communicator, able to build relationships with stakeholders across different parts of the business
- Self-sufficient and well-organised with the ability to prioritise and meet multiple deadlines
