Overview of the Property & Planning Lawyer role
Sellick Partnership is delighted to be partnered with Dover District Council on the recruitment of a Property & Planning Lawyer on a permanent, full-time basis. Due to continued growth, Dover District Council are seeking a Property & Planning Lawyer to join their Legal Services team, to provide a full range of professional legal services to the council, with particular emphasis on property and planning matters.
Key responsibilities of the Property & Planning Lawyer role:
- Residential conveyancing matters including (but not limited to) sales of Council property under the RTB legislation and acquisitions of properties to add to the Council’s housing stock, to include drafting and negotiation of the necessary documentation.
- Commercial freehold acquisitions and disposals to include drafting and negotiation of the necessary documentation.
- Advising on commercial landlord and tenant issues, and to draft, negotiate and complete leases, licences and such other legal documents as appropriate.
- Drafting statutory notices under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954 for the termination/renewal of leases.
- Drafting easements, deeds of assignment and deeds of variations.
- Drafting and advising on wayleaves.
- Investigating and drafting reports on title of registered land and unregistered land.
- Attending to post completion matters, including adverse and/or first registrations.
- Advising and assisting with all matters relating to the Council’s planning function, including (but not limited to) drafting of section 106 agreements, enforcement and other notices.
- Attending and advising at Planning Committee, Cabinet and Council as appropriate.
Required experience for the Property & Planning Lawyer role:
- A qualification as a Solicitor, Barrister or Legal Executive, with current practising certificate.
- Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualified experience.
- Strong experience handling commercial property matters and planning matters.
- Experience working within a local authority, public sector, or similar in-house legal environment is advantageous.
