Overview
We’re working with a growing Managed Service Provider (MSP) based in Newcastle who are looking to appoint a Head of Engineering to lead their internal engineering and technical delivery function. This role will focus on overseeing the design, implementation, and support of customer environments across Microsoft and cloud-based technologies, while also improving internal engineering standards, delivery processes, and team capability. You’ll be responsible for leading a team of engineers and technical leads across BAU, project delivery, and escalations, ensuring high-quality service to a range of SME and mid-market clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering function across project delivery, BAU support, and escalations
- Manage and develop a team of engineers, senior engineers, and technical leads
- Oversee technical delivery of infrastructure, cloud, and Microsoft 365 projects
- Act as escalation point for complex technical issues across customer environments
- Ensure consistent service quality across managed services and project work
- Improve engineering processes, documentation, and operational efficiency
- Work closely with Service Delivery, Projects, and Account Management teams
- Support pre-sales and solution design where required
- Maintain alignment with Microsoft and cloud best practices
- Drive continuous improvement across tooling, automation, and monitoring
About You
- Experience in a senior engineering leadership role within an MSP, IT services, or managed services environment
- Strong technical background in Microsoft stack (M365, Azure, Windows Server, Active Directory)
- Good understanding of networking, security, and cloud infrastructure
- Experience managing technical teams in a fast-paced support and project environment
- Comfortable handling escalations and making decisions under pressure
- Strong stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical teams
- Ability to balance operational support with project delivery
