Sellick Partnership is working with a major utility company who are seeking an experienced Senior Prosecution Lawyer to join a highly regarded in-house legal team within a regulated industry environment. This is a varied and hands-on role where you'll manage criminal and regulatory matters from initial investigation through to conclusion, acting on both prosecution and defence matters. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders across the business and play a key role in managing legal risk, regulatory compliance, and court proceedings.
Reporting directly to the Head of Legal, you'll join a small, collaborative team and take ownership of a diverse caseload covering criminal, regulatory, and environmental matters.
Key Responsibilities:- Managing criminal and regulatory cases from initial instruction through to conclusion.
- Preparing cases, gathering evidence, and developing legal strategy.
- Representing the organisation in court where appropriate and overseeing external counsel where required.
- Managing prosecution and defence matters across a range of legal issues.
- Instructing and managing barristers and external legal advisers.
- Handling appeals and post-judgment matters.
- Advising senior stakeholders on legal risk, regulatory compliance, and litigation strategy.
- Working closely with operational teams, regulators, and external agencies.
- Supporting investigations relating to environmental and regulatory incidents.
- Ensuring legal matters are managed efficiently and cost-effectively.
We're interested in speaking with qualified Solicitors, Barristers, or equivalent legal professionals with approximately 10+ years' post-qualification experience.
You will bring:
- Significant experience in criminal law, either from a prosecution or defence background.
- Strong advocacy and court experience.
- Experience managing cases from start to finish.
- The ability to advise senior stakeholders and operate autonomously.
- Strong drafting, negotiation, and case management skills.
- Experience instructing and managing counsel.
- Experience within environmental, utilities, energy, oil & gas, infrastructure, or other highly regulated sectors would be advantageous but is not essential.
- Candidates with experience acting on both prosecution and defence matters is also an advantage for the position.
