Overview

Childcare Lawyer – Location: Halton Borough Council, Widnes, Cheshire. Working: Hybrid. Status: Permanent.

Sellick Partnership is proud to be working with a well-regarded Local Authority in Widnes. We are looking for a Childcare Lawyer to join the Legal Services Department at Halton Borough Council to provide support to services across the Childcare Legal Team.

This is an opportunity to join an experienced legal team in the North West region, with excellent transport links to Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham and London. The council is undergoing transformation in the delivery of legal services.

Responsibilities

  • Hand a full caseload of childcare matters, providing advice on all aspects of public law children’s matters
  • Attend PLO and legal planning meetings
  • Draft documents, including statements and threshold documents
  • Handle non-accidental injury matters
  • Handle deprivation of liberty issues
  • Undertake civil advocacy and litigation work in respect of childcare matters
  • Be an integral part of a professional legal team delivering legal advice and support to all aspects of the Council’s services

Ideal requirements

  • Experience dealing with all childcare matters in a Local Authority, including advocacy in childcare proceedings
  • Excellent co-ordination skills
  • Ability to manage major projects and strong communication skills
  • Effective communication with officers internally and with courts, barristers, and professional bodies
  • Local government experience is desirable; applications from other parts of the legal sector are welcome
  • Qualified Solicitor/Barrister/FILEX with a current Practising Certificate
  • Strong understanding of childcare law and a track record as an established lawyer seeking to diversify their experience
