An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Qualified (Solicitor or Barrister/Equivalent) Planning Lawyer to join a Central Government Organisation. My client is looking for a passionate individual who has extensive knowledge and experience of Planning Law.

The role involves advising and supporting in exercising functions with a focus on Planning law, Environmental and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities of the Planning Lawyer:
  • Responsible for planning policies, safety policies, integration and regeneration.
  • Legal support on planning consent applications for large energy infrastructure projects and overhead powerlines.
  • Working with Government Departments on planning reforms.
  • Planning and environmentally focussed work, encompassing the application of the current regime as well as supporting new developments in response to government commitments.
  • Advising on litigation involving the Government, working closely with GLD Litigation teams and external Counsel as required.
  • Conducting a wide variety of matters making decisions about case progression (liaising and seeking views from senior colleagues where necessary).
  • Familiarity with electronic case management and ability to keep electronic files in good order with all correspondence and documents filed as necessary.
  • Ability to manage a high case load whilst maintaining a good working relationship with team colleagues.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • 2 years+ experience in planning law.
  • Sound knowledge of and experience of advising on Planning and Environmental matters.
  • Commonwealth or UK qualified Solicitor or Barrister/Equivalent with at least 2 years post-qualified experience.
  • Creative, solutions-focussed lawyers with strong communication skills.
  • A proactive approach to managing risks and identifying solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capability to create and support an inclusive working environment.
  • Reliable legal judgment and appreciation of legal risk.
  • Sound analysis, using sound legal research to produce timely and fit for purpose advice.
