Sellick Partnership are pleased to be working with The University of Buckingham, who are seeking an experienced Lawyer to join its in-house Legal Services team. Buckingham (hybrid working available - typically around two days per week on campus with flexibility).
Contract: Full-time, Permanent.
This is a varied in-house position with responsibility for delivering pragmatic, commercially focused legal advice to academic and professional services departments across the University. You will lead the Legal Services team, managing the Data Protection Officer and Paralegal, while helping to develop an efficient, responsive legal function that supports the University's strategic objectives.
- Providing day-to-day legal advice across the University.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts and agreements.
- Advising on supplier contracts, academic partnerships, consultancy agreements and student-related matters.
- Supporting governance, regulatory compliance and risk management.
- Managing claims and disputes, including liaison with external solicitors where required.
- Supporting data protection and GDPR compliance.
- Developing legal policies, contract templates and internal processes.
- Delivering legal training and guidance to colleagues across the University.
You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive in England and Wales with significant post-qualification experience. Experience managing or leading a legal team. Strong commercial contract drafting and negotiation skills. Experience across several areas including commercial law, contracts, employment, property, litigation, disputes, claims and/or data protection. The ability to provide clear, practical legal advice to non-legal stakeholders. Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
