About the Assistant Financial Accountant opportunity:

Sellick Partnership is pleased to be working in partnership with a well-respected and long-standing Local Authority client in the West Midlands. We are supporting Stoke-on-Trent City Council exclusively with the recruitment for a permanent Assistant Financial Accountant to join their finance team. This role comes with a competitive salary of between Β£27,711 – Β£37,938 and offers hybrid working to suit your work-life balance.

Purpose of the Assistant Financial Accountant opportunity:

  • To support the delivery of an integrated, robust financial planning process.
  • To support the provision of high-quality, accurate, relevant and timely monitoring and forecasting information.
  • Provide financial advice and guidance to stakeholders.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Financial Accountant will include:

  • Support statutory reporting processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Assist the financial accountant in treasury management activities.
  • To provide effective financial and accounting analysis.
  • To provide analysis and financial advice to stakeholders.
  • To contribute towards the delivery of the council's statutory Statement of Accounts.
  • Support taxation activities, ensuring compliance and optimizing tax strategies.
  • Help drive improvements in the financial control environment, identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Delivering statutory financial accounts and working with external auditors.

Required experience of the Assistant Financial Accountant:

  • AAT qualified (or equivalent) with a solid foundation in financial processes and systems.
  • Proven experience within accounting and budgetary control.
  • Strong technical experience.
