Sellick Partnership are currently recruiting for a fantastic opportunity for a Governance Lawyer at a reputable Local Authority based in the East Midlands. This is a locum position, offering remote working and the likelihood of a long-term contract.
The successful interim Governance Lawyer will support on a range of governance matters across the Council, including but not limited to:
- Advising on the legal requirements and limitations of a committee system of governance (including area committees)
- Advise committees and Full Council around lawful decision-making and good governance.
- Assist with the handling of complaints relating to the member code of conduct and the Police and Crime Panel
- Advising on the legal requirements of the Council's constitution and contributing to a review of the constitution
- Contributing to/advising on/reviewing/drafting policy documents and protocols connected with the operation of the constitution and the committee system
- Advising on local government constitutional and administrative law
- Attending meetings as required
The successful Governance Lawyer will have previous local authority experience of constitution and governance matters.
