We're currently looking to appoint an Assistant Principal Childcare Lawyer to join a welcoming and well-established legal team within a Local Authority. This permanent position is suited to an experienced local government Childcare Lawyer who is ready to take on a leadership role. The successful candidate will support the management of the team while handling a complex and varied caseload. The role offers a hybrid working arrangement, with an expectation of attending the office two days per week alongside court commitments. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Childcare Lawyer to progress into a managerial position within a knowledgeable and supportive team environment.

Key responsibilities of the Assistant Principal Childcare Lawyer:

  • To carry a varied caseload of childcare matters including NAI, sexual abuse cases, multi-issue cases and complex care proceedings.
  • Working closely with the two other Assistant Principal Lawyers and the Principal Lawyer to manage the team.
  • To advise on high profile and high risk matters, where required.
  • To assist the Principal Lawyer with case allocation, court metrics, training of the team and client department and general management of the team.

Experience/qualifications required for the Assistant Principal Childcare Lawyer position:

  • You must be a qualified Lawyer (Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX with Advocacy Rights) with a current practicing certificate.
  • Able to work on a hybrid basis with attendance at two offices when required as well as attending court when necessary.
  • Extensive experience in childcare law within a local authority setting is essential.
  • Experience of mentoring or supervising staff is beneficial.
  • Advocacy experience is highly beneficial.
