We are looking for a Senior Solicitor – Licensing and Litigation to join the Legal Services’ team at St Helens Council to provide maternity cover and support services across Council departments.This is a fantastic opportunity to join an amazing legal team who are Lexcel accredited and are finalists in the both the Local Government Chronical “Team of the Year 2024” awards and the LexisNexis “Customer Focus Award 2024”. Key duties of the Senior Solicitor – Licensing and Litigation:As Senior Solicitor – Licensing and Litigation, you will be responsible for:Demonstrating a thorough understanding of Licensing and Civil Litigation proceduresHandling a licensing caseload from start to finish including Taxi Licences and Premises Licences (Licensing Act 2003) and advising licensing committees Experience of advocacy and managing litigation matters in the Employment Tribunal, Civil and/or Criminal Courts You will be an integral part of a professional legal team delivering legal advice and support to all aspects of the Council’s services, you will be a positive and highly motivated person who is confident, versatile and innovative. Ideal requirements of the Senior Solicitor – Licensing and Litigation:The ideal candidate will have previous experience dealing with Licensing and Litigation matters in a Local Authority, be an excellent co-ordinator, and have well-developed communication skills. The ability to communicate effectively with officers internally, and externally with courts, barristers, and professional bodies is essential.Local government experience is desirable, but we welcome applications from people from all parts of the legal sector. This is a fantastic opportunity for an established lawyer with a good understanding of Licensing law to join a progressive organisation and diversify their skillset and experience.
