A permanent opportunity for an Adult Social Care Lawyer to join a competent local authority in Yorkshire, offering hybrid working and a salary of £47,181 per annum. Attendance is required once per week and for court appearances as necessary.
About the Role:
Sellick Partnership is looking for an Adult Social Care Lawyer to join a highly respected team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing legal advice, representation, advocacy, and support on all aspects of community care law relating to vulnerable adults, including:
- The Care Act 2014 and its regulations, including unpaid care home fees, charging, deprivation of assets, ordinary residence, and safeguarding.
- The Mental Capacity Act 2005, including deprivation of liberty in the Court of Protection, Re X applications, S16 and S21A applications.
- The Mental Health Act 1983, relating to applications for displacement of the nearest relative, associated court proceedings, conditional discharge of patients, S117 responsibility, and care and treatment regimens under the Act.
- The conduct of litigation before all courts and tribunals in relation to the work areas described above.
- Advocacy before first-tier courts and tribunals and equivalent forums, and before second-tier courts and tribunals as appropriate.
- Providing legal advice and support to enable the local authority to fulfil its statutory and strategic functions.
- Legal drafting, including statements, reports, pleadings, instructions to counsel, court orders, and settlement agreements as required.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Qualified Solicitors, Barristers, or FCILEX with 3+ years' PQE and strong technical expertise in adult social care law.
- Experience in managing complex cases, drafting legal documents, advising officers and members, and supporting service improvement.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage legal risk are essential.
