A highly regarded regional law firm is seeking an experienced Probate Administrator to join its growing and well-established Wills, Probate and Estate Planning team based primarily in Thatcham. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a respected, forward-thinking firm known for its collaborative culture, quality of work, and long-standing client relationships.
The Role
You will play a key role in the smooth administration of estates, working closely with and supporting designated lawyers throughout the probate process. Working within a friendly and professional environment, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing day-to-day support to specified lawyers on probate matters
- Preparing estate accounts and ensuring they are accurate and kept up to date
- Monitoring assets, liabilities, administration expenses, and income, proactively following up where required
- Maintaining well-organised paper and digital files
- Preparing routine correspondence relating to estate administration, tracking responses and chasing where necessary
- Drafting inheritance tax accounts and probate applications for lawyer approval
- Handling the closure, liquidation, or transfer of estate assets
- Paying liabilities and administration expenses
- Paying legacies and making distributions to beneficiaries
- Preparing income tax returns, R185s, and routine correspondence with HMRC
- Keeping lawyers regularly updated on progress and key developments

Requirements
- Previous experience within a private client or probate-focused role
- Confidence handling figures and estate accounts
- Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail
- Strong communication and client care skills
- Good IT skills, including case management systems and Microsoft Office
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
